Mars Opposition December 7, 2022 ⬅︎
On December 7, Mars will reach opposition in earth's sky. This means:
* Mars and the sun are 180° apart -- on opposite sides -- in Earth's sky.
* Mars is roughly at its closest to Earth as Earth passes Mars in its faster, inner orbit.
* Mars appears larger and brighter than at any other time.
* Mars rises in the east about the same time that the sun sets in the west.
* Mars is visible all night long.
* This is an excellent time to view Mars in a telescope, but, the weeks before and after are also very good. Look for polar icecaps, volcanoes and dust storms.
